Bolt Action: Finished Soviets

This got delayed by my taking a very long time to paint the last five camo-smock guys for the Razvedki half of the army, but here they finally are: My Bolt Action Soviet Army. The figures are a mix of (mainly) Warlord Games, Artizan and some Westwind as well. I have assembled them with no particular rhyme or reason, I basically got whatever packs I liked the look of then kept going till I hit 1000 pts. They all have their good points but I like the Warlord ones the best, a good combination of the Artizan quality and Westwind's nicely exaggerated sculpting style.

They are all on squares because I like single based models to have smaller bases with not too much foliage and handily Galeforce 9 sell premagnetized square bases. So thee guys live in a metal cake-tin and need fear no after-shocks! The collection includes: Warlord T-34/85, Tamiya Lend/Lease Universal Carrier; 18 Warlord Assault Engineers (including two flamethrowers); the big Westwind/Artizan Inexperienced rifle squad; 13 Artizan/Westwind Razvedki; a Warlord MMG/HMG in body armour, a Warlord 120 mm Mortar; the Artizan/Westwind sniper team; and my Artizan Lieutenant.

If I point this all out it comes to about 1040 points. I have a another two flamethrower modesl but think the one team is enough ATM. When the Soviet book comes out, then there is the hopeful possibility that the two flamethrower models in body-armour can go back in their respective squads and then I might use the two spare models if I want a separate team. So I have pretty much all I need for a standard size game but there is always something I want to add....

  2. Dude those are super cool!
I'm very jealous, like a typical imperialist lackey...;-)

  3. Thanks guys. They have most recently been seeing the bulk of their action on the Manchurian front but then I guess they will go wherever there are Imperialists of any stripe to combat...

I'm looking foward to seeing Chesty and his boys in action, Adam.

  4. Nice looking Reds! I think the square bases set your army well apart, mainly as everyone else I have seen has used rounds. Do you get more than 4 poses from Artizan designs Soviet Scout blister? I might look at them and add them to the WarlordGames scouts I've ordered.

Looking forward to more from you!

    1. Cheers - just the four poses from Artizan (I got two lots of them). I think Westwind do at least two packs that I think are suitable. The figs in the second from the front of the Green Camo smock guys are Westwind Snipers and I plan to get their SMG armed pack at some stage. Of course the planned Warlord Games pack looks amazing.

  5. Hey mate these look great. Love the mix of model's you chose (heavy emphasis on the PPsH...) and the simplicity of the T34/85 is awesome.

The Japanese forces have yet to win a victory off these lads so they're tough too!

    1. Heh, massed SMGs are cool and very Soviet. However, they do sometimes get you into some dangerous situations (being 12" from your opponent...) so I've been gradually upping the Rifle proportion of my new squads.

  6. They look great enough for the Germans to pumel them!

    1. Germans? It may have something to do with playing LW Soviets - but my little models seem to manage ok vs them, Vet Assault Rifles, cheap Volks-Grens, Panzerfausts, and all!

I've been considering picking up some Germans though, so I can play my son, who might enjoy the game. I reckon 2 boxes of WGF would make a pretty competent force, even lacking the option for assault rifles.
